The Legacy Of The Kirby Vacuum Cleaner

Gentleman and inventor Jim Kirby gleaned inspiration as a young man from watching his parent’s daily toils. He decided to spend his life creating tools that would make life easier on folks, and so in 1907, came about the primordial Kirby vacuum cleaner. Seven years later he had improved it into a non-electric home care system and asked some business associates to help him produce the “Vacuette.”

Personal Presentation Of The Kirby Vacuum Cleaner

George Scott and Carl Fetzer (of Scott Fetzer) agreed and by 1920 were paving the way for those in-home demonstrations that we all dread today. Even then, a desire to be their own boss and to convince people through personal presentation of the quality of their product was what led them to this style of selling, and they were quickly successful. The Kirby vacuum cleaner’s dual purpose was to lighten the load of household chores and make cleaning more effective and efficient, and it remains so today.

Yeah, But How Much Does A Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Cost?

No one can fault a man whose reputation exuded the perfect gentleman and whose intentions were as wholesome as those of Jim Kirby. These factors alone could make a person consider the purchase of their own Kirby vacuum cleaner. Then, you get right down to the nitty-gritty, and you discover they are just flat-out expensive, over $1,000!

It could be worth it if you plan ahead and save up while your current dinosaur is on its last leg. The Kirby vacuum cleaner salesmen claim your Kirby will last upwards of 20 years. I wouldn’t be surprised, because I’ve personally seen some models in use that look like they’re from the 1960s. Then again, there is wonderful eBay where you can diligently search for a much cheaper price.

Free Carpet Cleaning

Who would want to leave out the free carpet cleaning salesman though? Yes, it started in 1920, and they’re still working their magic today, dumping salt on the carpet and magnetizing seemingly invisible hairballs, skin flakes, and dust mite droppings. We’re not sure whether to be wowed or grossed out. Some Kirby vacuum cleaner door-to-door salespeople are oily, snippy (when denied), and annoying, taking up lunch breaks and time you don’t have, while others truly see themselves as entrepreneurs selling an amazingly helpful product and caring enough to check in on your satisfaction.

Jim Kirby Would Be Proud

There are multitudes of attachments and features that will do everything from blowing up air mattresses to sucking the dust off those hard-to-reach fan blades, all compacted in a lighter, easier-to-handle, more stylish model than Kirby himself ever dreamed possible. Over the years the Kirby Company has listened to distributers, dealers, management, and customers for tips on improving the Kirby vacuum cleaner. With a vacuum that almost pushes itself and automatically chooses the proper speed for each appliance, performing untold household chores, it’s hard to imagine how it could get much better (except the price). Jim Kirby would be proud.
