How To Use Your Pool Vacuum System

The heat this summer has been unbearable and you have vowed that you will not go through another summer without some relief.  Before the next summer arrives you and your family have decide to install a swimming pool.

There are many factors to consider before taking the plunge into this huge investment.  The first consideration is, of course, the initial cost of installing a swimming pool on your property. Then there is the ongoing expense associated with added utilities on a monthly basis.

Also, there is the daily commitment to take water samples to insure that the chemical balance of the water is maintained. This daily commitment also includes the use of the pool vacuum system and daily vacuuming of the pool.

To utilize a pool vacuum system requires the knowledge of some basic terms as well as learning the technique associated with a pool vacuum.

Terminology

A pool vacuum system consists of a number of parts that fit together to make the system fully functional. The vacuum head is that part of the pool vacuum system that is similar to a vacuum cleaner. This part of the system comes in contact with the surface of the pool floor and allows for the dirt to be suctioned into the system.

The vacuum handle of the pool vacuum system connects to the vacuum head. This part is generally telescopic in nature.

The vacuum hose is a pliable hose with connectors on each end of the tubing.  One end of the hose connects to the vacuum head and the other end attaches to the skimmer box.  The hose must have sufficient length to cover the farther portion of the pool when attached to the skimmer box. The skimmer box is part of the construction of the pool and houses the suction pump.

Vacuuming The Pool

Before activating the pool vacuum system the first order of business is to make sure the filter is cleaned. Also, debris found in the pool, leaves, twigs, etc., should not be vacuumed, but be removed using a pool net...

Once the vacuum head has been connected appropriately sink the head so that it is resting on the floor of the pool. Fill the hose with water and then connect the vacuum hose to the skimmer.

Once accomplished then place the other end of the tubing over the return to fitting that returns the water to the pool. This will force any remaining air out of the hose.

Now attach the vacuum hose to the vacuum plate located in the skimmer box. You should now have sufficient suction to pickup the loose dirt in the pool.
